Internet Policies at the Clearview Public Library

Disclaimer
The Internet is an unregulated, constantly changing information environment. Some information on the Internet may not be accurate, complete, current or confidential. Some information may be controversial or offensive. The Clearview Public Library is not responsible for the quality or availability of any information found on the Internet, other than its own Web Page.

Users should be aware that the Internet is not a secure medium and third parties may be able to obtain information regarding Internet use at this site.

Children's access to the Internet at the library, as with other library materials, is the responsibility of parents/guardians.

Services
Clearview Public Library offers Internet access at each of its Branches. However, the following services are not available to the public: newsgroups, file transfer and downloading to diskette/hard drive.

Charges
Users will be charged 25 cents per page for printing from the Internet.

Restrictions
Clearview Public Library patrons requesting Internet access must be patrons in good standing. Patrons must present their Clearview Public Library membership cards prior to signing up for Internet access to allow Library staff to ascertain their standing. Patrons who owe fines and/or have other charges and those whose privileges have been revoked will not be allowed to access the Internet at any of the Clearview Public Library's Branches.

Users are restricted to a maximum of one hour of Internet time per day. The one hour restriction cannot be broken up into smaller time periods. The exception to this restriction is the "Quick Search" public access Internet computer at the Stayner Branch. The "Quick Search" public access Internet computer at the Stayner Branch may only be booked for one 1/2 hour period per day. Users of the "Quick Search" computer who have completed their 1/2 hour booking may book an additional 1/2 hour of public access Internet time on one of the other computers at the Stayner Branch for a time immediately following their completed booking providing that the other public access Internet computers are not already booked.

Internet access may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance or technical difficulties.

Users cannot dial into the Library's Internet connection from other sites.

Users attempting to use the Library's Internet connection for unlawful purposes or to install/modify or delete software or damage equipment will have library privileges revoked and may be prosecuted.

Users who violate system integrity, including attempts to bypass security functions or alter the configuration of library computers in any way will have their library privileges revoked.

Users who print without paying will have their library privileges revoked.

Users who display text or graphics (all Clearview Public Library public access Internet computers are located in public areas) that may resonably be construed as obscene will have their privileges revoked.

Users who utilize Clearview Public Library public access Internet computers to obtain services not provided by the Library, including newsgroups, file transfer and downloading to diskette/hard drive, will have their library privileges revoked.

Copyright
Copying or distributing certain materials found on the Internet may infringe on Canadian copyright laws. Clearview Public Library is not responsible for such infringements.

Distance Education
Clearview Public Library will allow patrons to utilize the Library's Internet public access computers for participation in on-line distance education courses providing that the patrons register the course with the Library and that use of the Internet public access computer not exceed one hour per sitting. The Stayner Branch "Quick Search" Internet public access computer is not available for this service.

Revision approved at the October 17th, 2006 Clearview Public Library Board meeting.
